What is so unique about our kits?

Our printed canvas

All our kits are produced with Zweigart canvas, which is widely acknowledged to be the finest quality available, and are hand printed in colour. Our 5 hole canvases are accurate to the stitch meaning that no guesswork is involved and the finished tapestry matches the design exactly. Uniquely this is also true for our seven hole canvases and is not available from any other manufacturer. Our 10 hole canvases are also hand printed so that they fit the canvas as accurately as possible.

Our exclusive pure wool yarn

A further unique feature of our products is our premium quality pure wool Tapestry and Tapisserie yarns. They are spun in Yorkshire from the finest whole fleece with a long staple, high lustre and pure white base. These qualities give a smooth, glossy yarn with clear colours, ideal for tapestry. The yarn is then dyed, treated with conditioners and gently dried in a flow of warm air to produce a full and soft finish.

The Company

Jacksons of Hebden Bridge is a family company which has specialised in producing tapestry kits for church kneelers and furnishings for over 40 years and through three generations. Tapestry made from our kits is seen in churches, chapels and cathedrals throughout the world.

Product development

Our roots

For twenty years our main product range was rug kits using yarn produced specifically for those kits and also recycled carpet yarn from the local carpet mills. This latter product was particularly popular with the Women's Institutes where it was used in classes encouraging individual design ideas. An offshoot of this contact with the Women's Institutes was a request to produce kits for making church kneelers in cross stitch tapestry. This quickly became our main product as it filled a need for producing tapestry church kneelers produced quickly and easily for people with little or no experience of tapestry work.

The church kneeler kits introduced volunteers to tapestry where they had no previous desire to stitch. By and large they enjoyed themselves so much that once they had completed their contribution to the church they wanted to continue with tapestry but could not find any kits with the unique features that we provide. This led to our next development, a range of cushions with accurate colour printed canvas, finest quality wool and good value for money. Over the years this range of easy kits developed into the Brigantia Needlework collection providing kits for all ranges of ability and styles to suite every taste.
